Student Resources, Not Officers:
a campaign for police-free schools in Maine
Student Resources, Not Officers is a youth-led campaign to build police free schools in Maine. Our goal is to divest resources from school policing programs, including School Resource Officers, and secure reinvestments in community-based alternatives.
Why Education Justice and School Resource Officers?
We know that a just and equitable education is only possible through respect, mutuality and decision-making power for students, families, and communities. Schools should reflect the society we want to achieve: community that takes care of its people, especially those that experience the most harm.
This campaign is a specific and intentional investment in the leadership and political power of young people from communities that experience higher rates of state violence, policing, and systemic harm. By creating a community and network of young leaders engaged in grassroots organizing, we aim to interrupt cycles of harm through individual and collective power building and lifelong participation in movements for justice.
