The Trans Lifeline: 877-565-8860
The Trans Lifeline offers support for all trans people in crisis. It can be reached calling 877-565-8860. As of January 1st, 2024, Trans Lifeline’s hotline operating hours are Monday through Friday, 1PM – 9 PM Eastern

The Trevor Project: 1-866-488-7386
The Trevor Project offers support for LGBTQ+ youth in crisis. They have a phone helpline, available 1-866-488-7386 and a text line (TrevorText) 678-678 from any cell phone.
The Trevor Project is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning) young people.
Maine State Crisis Line: 1-888-568-1112
This number will connect you to the Maine Crisis Line (711 for a deaf & hard of hearing alternative). This hotline is available 24/7 for those navigating behavioral health crisis or having thoughts of suicide and/or self-harm. This resource is most helpful when accessing Maine specific information and mental health resources, as our members have had varying experiences with this resource’s LGBTQ+ competency.
Maine-Based Resources
Milestone’s HOME Team is a mobile support service and alternative to calling the police for our neighbors who are navigating homelessness and substance use. If you see someone in Portland or South Portland who needs help, call HOME Team to get them health care, shelter, food, or a ride without involving the police. The HOME Team is always 100% free of charge.
The HOME Team operates Monday-Friday 9am-9pm and weekends 9am-5pm. Call 207-838-8904 or 207-303-2073.
Joe Kreisler Teen Shelter & Teen Center offers a physical space for unhoused youth ages 12-20 to access services, shelter, and support. The Teen Shelter is open nightly 8pm-8am (38 Preble Street, Portland) and the Teen Center (343 Cumberland Avenue, Portland) is open daily from 8am-7pm serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This resource ensures a safe space to be (especially important during very hot and cold weather) with the option to utilize casework, health care services, education, and other community resources.
