We are looking for young LGBTQ+ people who are passionate about social justice work to join our movement to build a better Maine for low-income LGBTQ+ people.

Portland Outright Members are low-income, LGBTQ+/gender-nonconforming young people, youth of color, and otherwise marginalized youth in Maine (aged 14-25) who are working together to address homelessness, criminalization, mass incarceration, racism, and health issues and from the seat of personal experience. We are a community of people who are invested in each other, building deep connections, sharing both our struggle and joy, while fighting for each other's dignity and survival. We build membership as a way to build the skills, connection and leadership of working class LGBTQ+ youth in Maine – organizing together for the dignity and justice of all people.

Portland Outright Members contribute to the organization (participating in decision-making, collective projects, and community care), and receive support in the form of stipends, transportation, and leadership development opportunities, in their role as community leaders, artists, and organizers. Our Members meet weekly (outdoor in-person & remote participation is available at this time), with further opportunities to engage in committee-based work and projects. Sign up below to get started!

The Trevor Project offers support for LGBTQ+ youth in crisis. They have a phone helpline, available 1-866-488-7386 and a text line (TrevorText) 678-678 from any cell phone.

The Trevor Project is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning) young people.
